Reaching out

Image
Today I will reach out for help and assistance to make my dolly world better as well as my human world. I contacted Ms. A. Ivins of Belle Ami Fashions to assist me in any way she can to better assist myself. The letter I sent: Greetings and salutations,   First I would like to say that I am enamored of your work. Second that you are both an inspiration and a role model.Thirdly I am following down the rabbit hole behind you. I am looking for both a mentor "big sister" as well as a possible friend that shares my interests and can understand and appreciate why I will be doing the things that I am going to be doing. I want to make a series of gowns based on the french court prior to the revolution. I have made a set of pocket hoops but then wondered if all the layers were necessary for a doll as they were a human. I am African american and I have felt that I don't exist or have a face in history. My goal is to create a face using real women that existed in that time. Can

Super-sized Food and Drink

So after spending a few hours in Chicago we finally got on the road to head to St. Louis. The plans to stay overnight in a hotel there fizzled with my nerves. Which was okay. We got back to St. Louis around 1 am. Mom had fixed us a Thanksgiving Feast. We returned her her car and fixed plates. Jens ad mom talked for a little while, dad and Jens talked for a little while and we were off with saran wrapped plates to my apartment. With little to no discussion, eating some food, and being exhausted we climbed into my bed and enjoyed the sleep of the dead for 3.5 hours. We then got up repacked my luggage set.. (hello kitty dark blue with brown) and headed to my best friend Tricia's house. We loaded into her car and we were off to Michigan to celebrate the 4th of July with her Grandparents. We hit Culver's  at every food stop on the way there. Sweet potato french fries and butter burgers... yummy. Jens commented at the first one how big the drinks were and how sweet compared to Finlan

New Interests

Forgive me for taking so long to post. Life has been hectic and instead of using ti to fuel my blogging I just took a nap.Well I am awake now. There is so much to tell you that I don't think I can fit it all into one blog post. So I will break it up by subject. In my personal life as always new highs and lows. Absolute highest high was the boyfriend Jens came all the way from Finland to spend the entire hotter then hell month of July with me.    I can not express how honored and loved I felt when he told me he was getting on a plane and coming half way around the world to spend time with me. I guess I should back up and start at when/where/how we met. 2 years ago around April I was online hanging out in one of my best friends chat rooms on IRC and still healing from a not so happy relationship that left me feeling like I just wasn't enough. That yet again being black and female were 2 strikes against me. That if I had been anyone but myself it would have worked out and that o

Cosplay at the St. Louis Japanese Festival

Image
Two cute Gothic Lolitas A living BJD. At the St. Louis Japanese Festival the Cosplayers made their presence known! I didn't get their names and now think that I should have taken a notebook and gathered email addresses. The SLUTS (St. Louis Ubiquitous Tailors Society) and a few other organized costume guilds are attempting to join forces with the Cosplay group and raise the level of costume visibility in the St. Louis Metropolitan area and surrounding areas as well. The interests run in all directions, from mascot creations, Steam-punk, Gothic Lolita, Pirates, the Fae, Stuffies, Clothing and much more then I can list at this moment. There are more events upcoming that I would like to attend and capture the creativity that my hometown has to offer.

Historic Black Photo found

Image
While on the drive home from Smithfield Virginia we stopped in Richmond Virginia and ate at a Pancake House, this was one of the pictures on the wall. I have been searching for photos of black women from before 1955 for a long while. Finally some pay dirt that didn't involve something long weird or complicated. The photo is not in the best of conditions and before I alter it or try hard to clean it up I wanted to post it and share it with others. Just in case someone is interested or looking. If you read this and you have access to pictures this old please contact me. I want them from 1955 and back of women of color, even in other lands. Pictures of black children I will take so long as they predate color photos. Somedays I have issues with wondering where I fit in because when I see the past represented I am either the uniformed servant or nonexistant. Being an avid reader I know that seamstress was one of the acceptable jobs for black women so if we made the clothing there have
