Nongshim and Me

Image
So I was really hungry, but I have the flu and so far everything I cook ends in disaster. Then I remembered that I had magic in my cabinet. Nongshim Shin Ramyun Black with No MSG So far these are some of my favorite ramyun noodles ever.  Sick as I was, I heard the angels sing. Not as spicy as the regular spicy pack stuffed me very well and made excellent soup broth.  Contents of the package. Dried package contents and weight. Soup Base #1 Turned the broth from clear to white. Soup base #2 with all the spiciness.  Turned the broth orange with red spots. I had chicken left over from chicken noodle soup with no noodles the night before. The results with almost no broth. The end results and now I can eat and be happy! And all I had to do was boil water. Budget gourmet dining at it's best. Now I just need more Nongshim products to eat! I have no idea why I weighed the contents of the packages, the flu made me do it! ...

Fashion Quest

Image
I have been learning fashion illustration and beginning fashion design at home on my own. I am now ready to start playing with sewing and basic garment construction. I want to learn about pleats . I found that awesome blog that is inspiring as well as informative. There are many pleats and techniques to learn. I will start with the jewelry pleat because it is most often used on petticoats and on skirts. I need to make many petticoats and skirts so I may as well focus my attention on the details needed to produce them.

FreeRice

So there is this website called Free Rice that gives those in need free rice that you earn by playing games that help you and your brain. It is really awesome and you should give it a try!

New Nusic

So musically speaking I have always been able to carry a tune but the more I watch reality tv shows that talk about what it takes to be a really good singer the better I want to be. I don't want to be a pop star I want to be able to tell a story, my story through lyrics and music. I'd like to write songs that other people want to sing/hear. On this road I will be taking an even more serious look at the music I listen to and the songs that I sing along to. For tomorrow I will look at two songs and report my findings: A couple of forevers  and Titanium .

A Grammy outfit my cousin liked, and then my attempt at sketching out what I would do differently with the same outfit. Chrisette Michele a singer that before this post I had never heard of. I like her voice a lot. I have only been fashion sketching for about 3 weeks now, so much to learn so much to practice! I have to learn hands clearly, faces, hair, angles and finishing touches. I will add to this post once I fill up the pages with the ideas that hit my brain from this one outfit.

Korean Food

Image
Oh how I love and adore Korean food! This is 3 different dishes at my favorite Korean restaurant in St. Louis,Mo. Asian Kitchen on Olive. As you can see the wonderful owner provides lot's of side dishes and service with a smile. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere. If you are new to Korean food I recommend the Beef Bulgoki (bulgogi). After your meal when your bill comes it comes with a little yogurt drink, if you like dreamsicles you will love this drink. It is a palate cleanser and also helps your stomach deal with anything spicy that you may have eaten. My favorites are Bibimbob, Kalbi, Bulgogi, Kimbob, dried seaweed, and eggs. I like the spicy dishes with garlic, seasoned red pepper paste and a touch of sugar.

I apologize for the random order of posts. I miss this man, I sincerely do miss him. His name is Owain Phyfe and like many North American citizens he died because he didn't have healthcare. He was a bard and sang songs from eras gone by. Thanks to him I learned about music during the Renaissance and became curious enough to learn more about the Renaissance. It lead me to meet many new friends and enjoy many new things and my favorite of foods, turkey legs and rotisserie chicken. Owain said that he would sing at my wedding. It will happen this year or next, but alas he is no longer anywhere where I can go to hear him. With him singing I would have had a Moorish-Renaissance wedding. Now I am lost as to what to do for my wedding. I don't want a boring white dress and a church ceremony. I thought I wanted an ethnic joyous wedding of some kind. Now I will probably end up in jeans and a t-shirt at a courthouse.

So there is so much to say and so much to tell... Finland was an absolute blast this summer. I am looking forward to going there again and this time making maximum use of my time there. I met very wonderful people and had the best time of my life. This is the Baltic Sea between Finland and Sweden.  We went from Vaasa to Umea.

Remiss Apologies and Kuchipudi

My Dearest 4 readers,    I am very sorry to have left you neglected for some time now. There has been a lot going on in this world of mine. Most of it passable for okay and the rest of it failing to reach that mark. I am, (after a great deal of thought) going to begin again. I will blog about multiple subjects that interest me and help make me who I am. I will also blog about the things that will help me become who I want to be.      Tonight I will be blogging about Kuchipudi dance. Kuchipudi  is a South Indian Classical Ballet dance style. Follow the link for the wiki article. My introduction to Kuchipudi came at the tender age of 10 years old after dropping out of African dance class and switching to Belly dance. Belly dance was boring for me as I didn't have the body or the proper level of relaxation needed to study/dance it. While walking around the building on an errand I saw a girl near my age dancing in front of a mirror, doing things I had never ...
So Sunday was Mother's Day and we had a Dolly Playmates club meeting at Jenny's house. She is the president and Tricia's mother. It was fun there were new members there and that was fun and refreshing to have some new blood and new dolls in the group. It gave me a chance to really sit back and think about the doll hobby and the part  wish to play in it. No matter what  get into being a consumer is not where I want to fit. After doing some inventory over both the people in my life and the resources I have collected over the past few years, I have come to understand that it is time to shit or get off the pot.  So when I re-enroll in school for August, Fashion classes are a must.. I know that I want to be a supplier of demands and a creator of beautiful things, both for myself and more so for dolls. Inspiration has struck and I have a ton of work ahead of me including writing much, much more. It is time for this girl of many talents to find hers and stick with it.

Forgive me for not posting regularly. I will work on fixing this. Part of my journey has come to an end and a new art is just beginning. After the depression of working one dead end job after another I have made a few decisions that will change the course of the rest of my life. I am going back to school. I need 3 classes to finish out my degree and I am going to go for it. Then I am going to get a masters degree in Library Sciences. While taking these three classes I will also be taking Fashion Design classes. I will start at Lindenwood University and then switch over to the new and now enrolling Art Institute of Saint Louis Fashion Academy. My SD sized dress form has arrived from China and I have all the tools  need to get started except a teacher.  So by trial and error I shall be doing this on my own until August when I get to step foot in a classroom!  The picture is Elyria wearing a porcelain dolls dress and a white wig. She is the youngest of the triple...

Dress Code: High Fashion: Film Fashion: Mirror Mirror`s magical gowns made w... : Evil Queen Ball Gown Swarovski once again adds depth and dimension to the big screen - this time, one of the most beloved stories of all ... Once again it has taken a fairy-tale to inspire me... My dress form will be arriving soon and until then I am spending a lot of time with my Manipulation of fabrics textbook as well as my Patter Drafting textbook... thinking of maybe being crazy and just skipping ahead to the Draping textbook. Looking forward to fashion classes in the fall!

Reaching out

Image
Today I will reach out for help and assistance to make my dolly world better as well as my human world. I contacted Ms. A. Ivins of Belle Ami Fashions to assist me in any way she can to better assist myself. The letter I sent: Greetings and salutations,   First I would like to say that I am enamored of your work. Second that you are both an inspiration and a role model.Thirdly I am following down the rabbit hole behind you. I am looking for both a mentor "big sister" as well as a possible friend that shares my interests and can understand and appreciate why I will be doing the things that I am going to be doing. I want to make a series of gowns based on the french court prior to the revolution. I have made a set of pocket hoops but then wondered if all the layers were necessary for a doll as they were a human. I am African american and I have felt that I don't exist or have a face in history. My goal is to create a face using real women that existed in that time. Can...

Super-sized Food and Drink

Image
So after spending a few hours in Chicago we finally got on the road to head to St. Louis. The plans to stay overnight in a hotel there fizzled with my nerves. Which was okay. We got back to St. Louis around 1 am. Mom had fixed us a Thanksgiving Feast. We returned her her car and fixed plates. Jens ad mom talked for a little while, dad and Jens talked for a little while and we were off with saran wrapped plates to my apartment. With little to no discussion, eating some food, and being exhausted we climbed into my bed and enjoyed the sleep of the dead for 3.5 hours. We then got up repacked my luggage set.. (hello kitty dark blue with brown) and headed to my best friend Tricia's house. We loaded into her car and we were off to Michigan to celebrate the 4th of July with her Grandparents. We hit Culver's  at every food stop on the way there. Sweet potato french fries and butter burgers... yummy. Jens commented at the first one how big the drinks were and how sweet compared to Finlan...

New Interests

Image
Forgive me for taking so long to post. Life has been hectic and instead of using ti to fuel my blogging I just took a nap.Well I am awake now. There is so much to tell you that I don't think I can fit it all into one blog post. So I will break it up by subject. In my personal life as always new highs and lows. Absolute highest high was the boyfriend Jens came all the way from Finland to spend the entire hotter then hell month of July with me.    I can not express how honored and loved I felt when he told me he was getting on a plane and coming half way around the world to spend time with me. I guess I should back up and start at when/where/how we met. 2 years ago around April I was online hanging out in one of my best friends chat rooms on IRC and still healing from a not so happy relationship that left me feeling like I just wasn't enough. That yet again being black and female were 2 strikes against me. That if I had been anyone but myself it would have worked out...

Cosplay at the St. Louis Japanese Festival

Image
Two cute Gothic Lolitas A living BJD. At the St. Louis Japanese Festival the Cosplayers made their presence known! I didn't get their names and now think that I should have taken a notebook and gathered email addresses. The SLUTS (St. Louis Ubiquitous Tailors Society) and a few other organized costume guilds are attempting to join forces with the Cosplay group and raise the level of costume visibility in the St. Louis Metropolitan area and surrounding areas as well. The interests run in all directions, from mascot creations, Steam-punk, Gothic Lolita, Pirates, the Fae, Stuffies, Clothing and much more then I can list at this moment. There are more events upcoming that I would like to attend and capture the creativity that my hometown has to offer.

Historic Black Photo found

Image
While on the drive home from Smithfield Virginia we stopped in Richmond Virginia and ate at a Pancake House, this was one of the pictures on the wall. I have been searching for photos of black women from before 1955 for a long while. Finally some pay dirt that didn't involve something long weird or complicated. The photo is not in the best of conditions and before I alter it or try hard to clean it up I wanted to post it and share it with others. Just in case someone is interested or looking. If you read this and you have access to pictures this old please contact me. I want them from 1955 and back of women of color, even in other lands. Pictures of black children I will take so long as they predate color photos. Somedays I have issues with wondering where I fit in because when I see the past represented I am either the uniformed servant or nonexistant. Being an avid reader I know that seamstress was one of the acceptable jobs for black women so if we made the clothing there have...
